Andhar means Darkness and Ban stands for dense jungle, so the word Andharban literally means The Dense Dark Forest. The intimidating factor of this 13km long trek has to be the hardcore jungle cover over your head. A major portion of this trek route involves walking through this denseness. The start point of this trek ie Pimpri dam begins in bright daylight which keeps on fluctuating as we keep entering the dense part of the forest and out, this only adds up to the magic that this place has to offer. The trek concludes at yet another dam called the Bhira dam which is also the source of the Kundalika river which is famous for its White Water Rafting. 30% of the trek is all descend and remaining is normal walking. While on the route we can see the beauty of places like Ghangad, Tailbaila, Sarasgad, Plus valley, Tamhini ghat, Kundalika valley. Last one day trek to Kalsubai for this year the highest top in Maharashtra 31 December 2015, ThursdaySummary:Trek: KalsubaiHeight: 5400 ftRegion: IgatpuriCost: Rs 900.00 per personTrek Leader: Rajesh MhaddalkarAbout Kalsubai:Kalsubai with the height of 1646m [5400Feets] is famous as one of the highest peaks in Maharashtra. Kalsubai lies in the Sahyadris mountain range. This being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough effort has been made to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb. There is a symbolic temple at the top. It is said, that in the ancient times, a lady named "Kalsu" came to nearby Indorey village to work. However, somebody forced her to clean utensils and clean up the residence by force. So she left the place and eventually died at this spot. So comes the name, Kalsubai. A small temple is built here, in her memory. From the top of Mount Kalsubai, one can get great view of the Bhandardara Lake and Wison dam, immediately after the rainy season, the place is covered with variety of flowers. During the months October to November people neighbouring region organize a religious fair at this place. It usually takes three hours to reach the top from Bari. Soon after leaving Bari, a small stream is crossed followed soon after by a Hanuman temple. The route from behind this temple takes the hiker straight to the summit. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top. The rest of the route is without water, so it is best to fill water bottles in Bari. It is an easy hike, but parts of it are quite steep.Itinerary for Kalsubai starts by travel up to Kasara by Kasara local train starting from Mumbai CST on 31 December 2015 Thursday, timing are as below:18:25 Mumbai (CST)18:40 Dadar18:50 Ghatkopar19:07 Thane19:19 Dombivili20:39 Kasara31 December 201520:45 Assemble at Kasara Railway st... It is one of the three forts, the others being Madangad and Kulang, in the Kalsubai range of the Western Ghats. They are the most difficult to reach forts in Nasik District. A dense forest cover make these treks difficult. These three forts are a little neglected due to very heavy rains in the area and a difficult confusing path to the fortsAbout Kulang fort:Being in the same region of the three forts its said climb to Kulag is the most difficult. On the way up climbing we come across patches of rock cut steps. It take 6 hours to reach from Kulanwadi to the fort. On the fort to see around 5 water cisterns. Form here we could also see Mahuli with the 3 pinacles. One can also stay at the caves here.About Madan fort:The climb preferred is usually between Madan and Alang. The time taken could around 3-4 hours to reach the step after leaving Kulung fort. Over here rock climbing would be required as the wall of the steps was destroyed during the cannon fire. Use of a fixed rope is required. There is one large cave on this fort and 2 water cistern. The top of the fort is a huge plateau. On the fort, there are two caves, a small temple and 11 water cisterns. Remnants of buildings are spread over the fort.
