(Leaving Saturday night)Information about the Ratangad: Type: Hill Fort    Grade: Medium Endurance Level: Medium Height: approx. 4255 ft. Base Village: Ratanwadi Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadri looks very much lost in time. This fort offers fabulous views of majestic Sahyadri ranges. Right from Katrabai till Sandhan Valley. One of the most beautiful forts in Flowering September, Ratangad seems to shadowed by yellow Sonki Flowers. Chandan-Vandan, the twin forts, are situated at about 24 kms. from Satara. These forts can be easily identified from Pune-Satara route because of their flat plateaus.                                                                      History:  These forts were built-up by king Bhoj II of Shilahar dynasty. Shivaji Maharaj overpowered Chandan-Vandan in 1673. Marathas ruled this region up to 1689. Afterwards Mughals ruled this fort. In 1707, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj won this region. Later, British ruled over these forts.                                                                                              Whats to see on Chandan vandan – ·        Many dilapidated structures can be seen on the fort ·        Panchvad with Shiva Temple having Five Lingas ·        Big Mosque with a wall like structure ·        Remainings of old buildings, A small lake ·        From top we can see beautiful view of surrounding area.       Kenjalgad is a beautiful fort located to the south of Pune near Bhor. During the early days, it was also called as Ghera Khelanja and Mohangad. There is not much to see on the fort as most of the structures are not intact, but its definitely worth visiting considering the beautiful plateau on the fort. The walls of the fort, however are still intact.     Raireshwar Situated 8 km from Bhor in Pune district is the plateau of Rayari. Raireshwar has great historical significance.            TREK TO GORAKHGAD     Category : Trekking Level : Medium + Duration : 1N/1D Dates: 5th Dec– 6th Dec. 2015   About the Tour: Gorakhgad is a fort that can be done easily in a day from Mumbai. Though not famous for any historical events, Gorakhgad attracts trekkers due to its inviting pinnacles, which offer good opportunities for rock-climbing. This region of Gorakhgad and Machhindragad has a dense forest cover. Fort Gorakhgad is quite small in size. It was had strategic importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje. However, no major battle is recorded to have taken place here. It was used in Shivaji's era to patrol the nearby region and was used as a stopover station during the journey to Junnar via Naneghat. Though small in size, there is enough availability water and a lot of space for accommodation.
