NOLS

Howdy NOLS Alumni -

Happy Spring! We're excited for Spring here in Lander because Spring
means reunions. We've got reunions coming up on both coasts and
right in the middle so hopefully we'll see you at one!

The first ones up are Seattle and Minneapolis. Seattle will feature
a presentation by NOLS grad Majka Burhardt on her first ascents in
Ethiopia and is at the Patagonia Store (2100 First Ave, Seattle, WA
98121). It will be on Saturday night, April 19, 2008 from 7 - 9:30.
The cost is $10. The Twin Cities reunion will feature a presentation
by NOLS grad Brian Eustis on his time in Papua New Guinea. It will
be on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 7 - 9:30 at Champps (100 6th St.
Minneapolis, MN 55403) and costs $10.

Both reunions also have pre-reunion first aid updates - a fun-filled
hour of wilderness medicine, games, and prizes! Instructors from WMI
will be hosting a round of WIlderness Medicine Jeopardy complete with
prizes for the winning teams. Come prepared to be educated,
entertained and, possibly, rewarded by the folks featured at the
Wilderness Medical Society's 25th Annual Meeting (http://www.wms.org/
conferences/snowmass08/preconference.html)!

These first aid updates will be from 5 - 6 at the Washington Mutual
Center in Seattle and the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
For more information on reunions, or to RSVP (please RSVP!) email us
at alumni@nols.edu or give us a call at 800-332-4280.

Hopefully spring has sprung in your neck of the woods and you're
gearing up for all sorts of warm-weather outdoor fun. Why not get
the whole family in on some outdoor NOLS fun? On April 15th every
child is good as gold - reward that golden child with an Alumni
family trip to the Wind Rivers. We'll be hiking and camping with
llamas, so don't miss this golden opportunity (you may even catch a
Golden Trout). Trip dates are July 21 - 26, 2008.

Speaking of the Wind River Range, did you know that NOLS Alums will
again stand on the summit of the highest peak in Wyoming, Gannet Peak
(13,804 feet above sea level!)? Still more NOLS grads, friends, and
family will give back to the land on the first ever Alumni Service
trip; trail maintenance in a stunningly beautiful setting. For dates
and more information go to http://www.nols.edu/alumni/trips/.

Don't have time for an alumni trip but still want to get outside with
NOLS and learn (or refresh) a skill? Try one of our seminars. Up
next are sea kayaking seminars in Chicago and San Francisco. These
seminars a great chance to learn kayaking skills or knock the rust
off of your existing paddling and rescue techniques. For dates and
more information go to http://www.nols.edu/alumni/seminars/.

April 15th? Ah, of course, it's tax season. And what better way to
spend your tax return than at the NOLS store (with an alumni
discount, of course)! Check out http://www.nols.edu/store/home.php
for all kinds of great NOLS gear and use code "redael2007" to get 20%
off items between now and the end of April. (Important note from the
folks who run our store: To use Coupon Code: Once you have added your
items to your shopping cart scroll to the bottom of the "Your
shopping cart" screen and enter coupon code in the "Discount Coupon"
field. This needs to be completed BEFORE you proceed to Checkout.
We are unable to process discounts after orders have been placed.)

Last but not least, the Spring issue of our alumni newspaper, The
Leader, should be arriving in mailboxes any day now - if you don't
see one, it may be time to update your address with us. Address
updates can be sent to alumni@nols.edu. Making sure we have current
contact info on file is the best way to ensure that you stay in touch
with NOLS. How will you get The Leader; how will you know about
reunions, trips, and seminars; and how will long-lost coursemates
reach you if we don't know how to find you?

Of course we know that NOLS folks are doing a lot more interesting
things than moving, so if you've got something you'd like us to
include in the Jabberwocky section of our Summer Leader, send it our
way! We want to know about your personal expeditions, your life
events, your new careers - just what the heck you're up to these
days. (Because of space constraints, please limit yourself to three
sentences, so we can get everybody in.) As usual, submissions can be
sent to alumni@nols.edu.

Until next time,
Lauren
