FAMILY ADVENTURE CAMPING

(1) 12th April 2008

Youth Hostels Association of India as a part of silver jubilee celebration of YHAI National trekking during 1995 introduced family camping for the families of N.H.T.P.Volunteer camp leaders and other functionaries. Now various unit offices bearers wanted family camp at Kodagu. First time this year we are organizing family adventure camp in the picturesque valley of Western Ghats of Kodagu region.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

A family consists of husband wife and two children up to the age of 12 years. Participation is open to the families of the office bearer's of YHAI Karnataka State Branch and units and YHAI member in order to perference.

A single person does not constitute a family and shall not be registered for this camp parents of very small children arranged for their bottle feed.

PARTICIPATION FEES

The fees just Rs. 2,000/- (Rs. 2,100 for non members) for a family consisting of husband, wife and two children up to the age of 12 years. The fees remain same even if no children accompany. Rs. 300/- will be charged for more than two children and Rs. 550/- will be charged above 12 years additional per family members.

DURATION

The duration of the camp of each family is three night and 4 days (Dinner to break fast)

WHERE TO REPORT

Each family shall report at the V-Trak campsite at Thalathmane on reporting date at 4.00 PM . Extra stay will be subject to availability of accommodation and charge of 500/- per day.

V-Trak campsite which is the base camp for the programme is 3.5 Km from Madikeri town. It is linked by road to Mangalore and Baghamandala road junction.

HOW TO REACH

Regular private bus services are available from Madikeri. 3.5 Km Thalathmane (Mangalore and Baghamandala road junction) Autorikshaw will cost Rs. 50/- during daytime.

ACCOMODATION

One tent shall be given to each family,mattress and blankets shall be provided. Family should bring their own bed sheets.

FOOD

Bed Coffee, Morning Tea, Breakfast, packed lunch evening Tea ( in the camp), Dinner and after dinner Bournvita / Badam Milk during campfire shall be provided. Simple vegetarian, Good quality, nutritious food shall be served at the camp. One day Coorg food ( Veg ) is served . Every day friuts served during dinner time. Please bring your own plate, tiffin box, mug, spoon etc.,

SCHEDULE

During the stay at the camp, campers may visit Omkareshwara temple, Fort, Museum, Rajaseat park and Gaddige around Madikeri. Abbi falls 8 Km from Madikeri, Cauvery Nisargadama an Island with deer park and elephant safari 25 Km from Madikeri and Golden Temple are Tibetian sierra 40 Km from Madikeri. Busses from Madikeri to these places. All sight seeing shall be at your own cost. Our volunteers may help you in planinng your program.Even you can visit Mysore 121 Km., Brindavan Gardens arranging a mini bus if all the family camp members willing to go together, otherwise mini cars can also rented for each families.

TOILET

A well-constructed pucca Toilet cum Bathroom block is available at the base camp.

WATER

Natural Mineral Spring Water as been brought to the base camp through gravity from near by Natural un-polluted stream.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING

Cotton Clothes, Walking Shoes, Cold Cream, Sun Burn Cream, Vaseline, personal First Aid Kit, Bed Sheets, Plate, Lunch Box ( for packed lunch) Mug, Spoon and Medicines you normally use at home etc.,

HOW TO JOIN

Members desirous of joining this programme may apply through their Units / State Branch on the registration form duly supported by Medical Certificate.

SPECIAL NOTE

1. Smoking, Drinking and use of Drugs in the tents and camping area is strictly prohibited.
2. The benefit of special casual leave is not available to the participants of this programme.
3. Participants will have to strictly follow the YHAI Decipline.

4. Drivers and Attendants are not allowed to stay inside the campus. They may, however, have meals on payment.
