About Roopkund – Roopkund Lake is situated at in altitude of 5029m in the lap of Trishul Massif in the interior of the Chamoli district. Roopkund is famous for the mysterious shallow lake of about 2m & is about 50m in diameter, with the edges covered with snow almost throughout the year. This area is usually called the ‘Mystery Lake’, since human skeletons and remains of horses from the Paleolithic age were found here. After the snow melts, skeletal remains, which are believed to be 500-600 year old, The Lake is surrounded by rock-strewn glaciers and snow clad peaks.
