Trek to Avachitgad-Ghosalgad on 20th July 2008 Nisarga Bhraman

Hey there Friends,

We at Nisarga Bhraman have decided to trek to forts of Avachitgad and Ghosalgad near Roha on the 20st July 2008.

Here is some Info about Avachitgad & Ghodsalgad:

Height: 977Feet/300Mtrs (Avachitgad) and 1200feet (Ghosalgad) above MSL(Approx)
Grade: Easy
District: Raigad
Region: Roha
Base Village: Medha / Ghosala

Avachitgad: A fortified hill is situated 3 miles from Roha, on the north side of Kundalika river. The fort was headquarter of Subha in the Nizamshahi Dynasty of Ahmadnagar.
The fort is still in a good condition. The bastion on the way, which was used to keep watch on the surrounding area, Mahadarwaja, a beautiful lake with potable water, a statue of lord Khandoba, Mahadev Mandir, Pingalsai Devi chi Ghumti, remnants of old construction, a series of water cisterns, 2 canons are few things atop worth looking at. From the top of Avachitgad, one can have a glimpse of Telbaila, Sudhagad, Sarasgad, Dhangad, Raigad and Savashna Ghat.
There are two ways to reach the fort. One is from Pingalsai village and the other from Medha. The way to the fort goes through thick woods and it takes 1 hr to reach the top. The forest around the fort is dense and several varieties of birds and animals like boar, monkeys, foxes, hares, leopards can be found here.

Ghosalgad: Approx 9 km south of Roha and 32 km east of Murud is a mountain which arises majestically to the sky. A fort on the top of hill has been named Ghosalgad after the village Ghosala below. Located between the Sawle creek and Revdanda creek, the fort was used as look out post for those ruling over Murud.
As the base village Ghosal is at a considerable height, a hike to the fort from the base is not much and there is an easy path to the top. A water pond named Wajta Haud, remnants of watch tower, fortified wall, temple of Bhavani and Ganapati, water cisterns etc. can be seen atop. A beautiful view of base village Ghosala, Murud creek and Talagad can be seen from the top.
