Trek to Ramshej-PandavCav-Ghargad-Kavnai 28th feb to Mar 1st 09

Brief Introduction abt Ramshej/Ghargad/Kavnai:

Location: Nashik/Igatpuri
Ramsej or Ram's Bedstead,in Dindori,abt 7 miles south of Dindori & abt 7 miles north of Nasik.It was built 2 keep watch on Sawal Pass.There r 2 gateways, one within the other.Ram Temple, several rock cut water cisterns with ample water, remains of houses,Chor Darwaja,fortification wall,temple,2 ammunition chambers build of stones etc. r things 2 see on top.Frm top,1 can see Bhorgad @north-west,Tryambak range @south & Satmala range @north.
Though small in size,Ramsej has an amazing history.In 1682, Mughals tried a lot to capture fort but failed. Marathas fought very bravely for 6 years & finally the Mughals captured the fort on 1687.Marathas captured it again in 1707.During the Maratha war of 1818, Ramsej was one of the 17 strongholds which surrendered to the English on the fall of Trimbak.

These historical caves created B.C.100-110 r located on tableland on da Trivashmi Hill. Together, there r 29 caves & may be training center fr Buddha worshippers.Icons of Bhagwan Gautam Buddha & Bodhisatva r wonderful crafted.During Jain regime B.C.1000-1100 these were home to Jain saints.Inside the caves one can see idols of Buddha,Bodhisatva,Jain Tirthankar Vrishabhdeo,Veer Kapibhadra & Ambikadevi.The cave complex contains large caves were the meeting places of the disciples,where sermons were preached.The caves were well designed with several water tanks chiseled into the rock.
The main entrance door of the fort still stands in good condition.Entering the main door we can see cave on the right side.We can see small pond 2wards southern side of fort.There r many dilapidated structures of mansion by the side of this pond.A bastion @western end of the fort.A cistern is located nr the bastion.

Things To Carry:-

A Water Bottle (~3 Ltrs a must)
A cap
Camera, Cell Phone, Binoculars (Optional)
Pls avoid wearing Gold and other ornaments
Some ready to eat food. Plum cakes, Biscuits etc
Extra Pair of clothes,
Good trekking shoes,
Personal basic medical kit (Containing an antiseptic, few bandages, personal medications if any, Antibiotics for stomach infection)

A haversack to put all these things

Smoking and drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited.

The initial Estimated expenditure is about Rs. 500/- only
That includes Transportation charges from Mumbai to Mumbai by Private Vehicle, Morning B/f–T, Lunch & Evening refreshments …

For registration, Rs. 425/- as advance payment for vehicle charges is a must ...
the seats will be on first come first basis ...
Last minute entry will be given in case empty seat is available ...
